Arizona is also known as the Grand Canyon State and borders California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah.

Phoenix is the capital of Arizona and is also the largest city in Arizona. Arizona's state abbreviation is AZ, and Arizona is ranked 20th in population and received its state hood February 14, 1912. Residents of Arizona are known as "Arizonans." The state song of Arizona is "Arizona March Song." Arizona's state motto is "Ditat Deus" which means God enriches.

Arizona's state bird is the Cactus Wren, and the state tree is the Palo Verde, which means "green wood" in Spanish. The flower is the Saguaro Cactus Blossom, which is the largest cactus in the United States.

Major industries in Arizona are mining, manufacturing, and tourism.

There were 799,250 K12 students in the Arizona public schools in 1996. Out of those students, 799,250 were first grade students. There were also 40,521 K12 public school teachers in the Arizona public schools system. There were a total of 1,340 Arizona public schools in 1996.
