Georgia is unofficially known as "Empire State of the South" or the "Peach State." Atlanta is Georgia's capital and its largest city. Residents who live in Georgia are known as Georgians. Georgia's state song is "Georgia on My Mind."

The Brown Thrasher is Georgia's state bird. Cherokee Rose is the state flower, and the Live Oak is the state tree, which is used as timber and is an important part of Georgia's economy.

Georgia borders Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. To the right of Georgia lies its major body of water, the Atlantic Ocean.

Georgia's major industries are textiles, timber and agriculture. Georgia agriculture includes cotton, corn, peanuts, soybeans and poultry.

There were 1,110,947 K12 students in the Georgia public schools in 1996. Out of those students 114,978 were first grade students. There were also 81,795 K12 public school teachers in the Georgia public schools system. There were a total of 1,798 Georgia public schools in 1996.
