Louisiana's motto is " Union, justice, and confidence." The name Louisiana is of origin in honor of Louis XIV of France.

The state bird of Louisiana is the Eastern Brown Pelican. The Eastern Brown Pelican is about four feet long and weighs nine pounds.

Bordering states of Louisiana are Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas. The major bodies of water flowing through Louisiana are the Mississippi River and Red River. The state flower is the Magnolia Blossom and the state tree is the Bald Cypress.

Louisiana is ranked 22 nd in population and received its statehood April 30, 1812.

Louisiana's main agriculture is rice, cotton and soybean. Other major industries in Louisiana are salt production, oil, natural gas and fishing.
